Simple Pleasures ~ Breakfast At the Lake

Yesterday the lake was like glass, barely stirred by the slight breeze that provided welcome relief from the sun and heat. The water was clear and blessedly refreshing. What better setting for breakfast than sitting on the patio, under the rustling shade of the poplar trees, overlooking this vista. A wonderful place to write, to read, to think about life, to simply be. Satisfied. Still. Serene.

A setting like this needs only the simplest of breakfasts, a bowl of cinnamon-scented oatmeal, topped with chopped strawberries and plump blueberries, their red and blue complementing the red wooden table at the shore and the strip of deepest blue water far, far away, the place where the lake takes us in our imaginings.

  1. Life seems to be good for both of us at our summer cottages on our lakes. It is funny but we have even been cooking and eating a lot of the same things. Enjoy summer!

    • Thank you Karen. I find I’m drawn to ‘healthier’ foods this summer – must be the effect of wearing a bathing suit every day! :) Not to mention it’s just too hot to barbeque much. Happy summer to you!

  2. Isn’t it something? Some days, you can sit by the lake and not even know it is there. It’s about as placid as a body of water can be. Your breakfast bowl is perfect for such an occasion. On the other hand, there are times where it is so rough and the waves so fierce that you cannot hear yourself speak along the shoreline. When the Lake is that restless, the best meal is served inland.

  3. looks so good, I can feel the atmosphere ;) !can’t wait for my holiday!
